Artists from China and India delivered a classical music concert Friday night at Shenzhen University (SZU)’s Yuehai campus, fostering a closer bond between the people of the two countries.

The China-India Classical Music Concert is also part of the celebrations for the 100thanniversary of Rabindranath Tagore’s visit to China.

Supriya Dutta, an Indian classical vocalist, performed a composition that is based on Raag Malkauns, one of the oldest ragas of Indian classical music. The performance was also presented with instruments such as sarod, harmonium and tabla.

Tabla player Bivakar Choudhury (L) play with guzheng players.

“Music has no barrier so everyone understands. Let us try to embrace ourselves through music and forget all the borders. That’s my message I want to convey to the audience,” said Dutta.

The musical concert also attracted Sharma Priyasha, a graduate from SZU who is now working in Shenzhen. Priyasha said her favorite was the Indian classical dance and the collaboration of Chinese and Indian music together.

Souraja Tagore, a descendant of Rabindranath Tagore, performs a dance.

"Watching the mesmerizing cultural and traditional Indian and Chinese performances was a captivating experience. Witnessing the fusion of cultures from the country of my origin and the nation where I have spent many years, expressed through music and dance, was truly touching," Priyasha remarked.

Another Indian identified as Saranya also noted that the concert played a role in bringing the relationship of the two countries closer.
